Criteria for the Media Award included:  (1) audience (institutional, regional, National), (2) richness of message (how well were program goals communicated), (3)  quality of media item, and (4) number of media items submitted.

Finalists were:  University of Connecticut, Polytechnic at NYU, Pennsylvania State University, Portland State University, and the University of Wyoming.

The winners were the University of Connecticut Ingenuity Incubators Program and the University of Wyoming Science Posse.

Criteria for the Outstanding Project Website award were:  (1) visual appeal, (2) organization of material on website, (3) current content, (4) fellow bios are present, clear and interesting, (5) school partners and teachers are identified, (6) user friendly science activities, lessons/labs, curriculum, and presentations available, and (7) project News Events are available.

Finalists were: University of Wyoming, Michigan Technological University, Iowa State University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and University of North Carolina Greensboro.

The winners were Michigan Technological University GlobalWatershed and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Triple Helix.

Abaid and C. Yuvienco and PIs V. Kapila and M. Iskander describe Mechatronics Mania in the October 2011 issue of IEEE Control Systems Magazine.  The NYU-Poly team presented this informal learning exhibit at the inaugural USA Science and Engineering Festival Expo held in Washington, DC in October 2010.  In the article, they report on the formulation and components of the projects in the exhibit, the reflections of participating fellows and teachers, and the results of a survey of visitors that included demographic information, interest in STEM, and knowledge of mechatronics gained from interactions at the exhibit.

The session will highlight how geospatial data and tools used in higher education and scientific research can be incorporated into K-12 curricula.  Topics include uses of GIS and remote sensing data, Google Earth functionality and layers, and GPS.  Current and alumni Fellows are invited to join the BU Fellows at this session.
